Project Overview and Role

To support and lead Palladium projects across the globe, principally financed by USAID, that have agricultural development, trade, workforce development/job creation, enterprise/industry development, and finance/investment and objectives. The work assignments for the position are expected to focus principally on our Latin America portfolio. The Manager will provide business development support, technical project management inputs and technical expertise to these projects as needed. The role reports to Vice President, Economic Growth or his/her designee.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Manager- Economic Growth are to:

Lead and participate in technical assignments:
o Lead short-term inputs and/or consultancy assignments on topics such as agricultural value chain development, private sector development, finance/capital mobilization/investment, enterprise growth, export generation, and other relevant topics:.
o Provide technical input into the design, planning and delivery of international development projects for USAID and other international donors;
o Provide support to monitoring and quality-assuring Palladium's services;
o Identify, build and maintain relationships with partners and consultants that can provide technical expertise to Palladium-managed projects;
o Work with others in the Economic Growth Practice to promote and build Palladium's technical capability.
Business Development:
o Write/contribute to technical proposals based on best practices applied to specific country contexts;
o Manage the identification, assessment, and pursuit of new business opportunities, contributing to the analysis of our prospects for winning opportunities.
Project Management:
o Act as Headquarters Project Director or provide support to Project Director(s) on assigned projects as requested;
o For assigned portfolio projects, interface with clients and other project stakeholders to plan, implement, review, and report on projects as needed and requested;
o Provide support to project work planning, budgeting, and progress/financial reporting;
o Provide technical support to projects as required;
o Manage partner organizations (such as subcontractors) on the contractually compliant delivery of agreed inputs and achievement of agreed outputs and outcomes.

Requirements

Minimum education and experience required
o Fluency in English and Spanish.
o Minimum of 8 years relevant work experience in international development/economic growth.
o Minimum of 2 years of client project management with government clients, and/or business development experience that includes management of one or more projects.
o Preferred: experience with USAID projects, contracts/subcontracts/grants.
o Preferred: 4 years of experience in working in a developing country or in a project-based environment.
Key competencies and professional expertise required
o Understanding of relevant client programs and policy.
o Familiarity with developing country contexts where Palladium implements its projects.
o Strong technical writing skills.
o Project management training and experience.
o Excellent written and oral communication skills.
o Ability to conceptualize and write a bid proposal or project report.
o Sound business development and client relationship management skills.
o People management skills.
o Financial acumen and the ability to interpret and analyze financial reports.
o Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
o Preferred: Willingness to travel and work abroad 4 to 8 weeks per year.
